AMD-4 Dean Chenensky

For this AMD I compared news articles from German and American sources on the subjects of the Boston Bombing. I noticed that in the German article there was less assumed information. In the American articles there were many more “facts” stated that seemed more like assumptions, while in the German article there were just facts about what happened and what was currently known. 

AMD 4

For AMD 4, I went to an opera Ariadne auf Naxos at Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre. The opera was performed fully in German with provided subtitles. The performance was incredible! I have never thought that students can play in such deep and romantic way. Honestly, I have never been to opera before and I was pleasantly surprised to find out what a great talents study at our university.

AMD4

For AMD 4 I watched the third clip of Lola Rennt. It is so strange watching generally the same plot, but with all these different situations that lead up to it. I really like how when Lola passes certain people it shows clips of their futures and what happens from that encounter on. It really is an interesting thing to think about in our lives as well. What happens to people after we have a run in with them? I like that Lola robbed her father and the bank rather than Manni robbing the store. Her father may not have deserved that but he was a bad man anyways. I'm unclear as to if he was still going to leave his family, but I think in this clip he wasn't. Lola Rennt is just so interesting to me and I really enjoy every clip I've watched. I don't even know what to expect for the fourth and final clip. I really like how they make everything play out and how every situation or encounter influences the next. That is just how life is even though we don't think about it that way. Sometimes it's neat to think about what would have happened differently if one encounter would have gone a different way. Sometimes even just thinking what if I got the soup instead of the salad for dinner can lead to a whole new branch of life that you'll never experience. It makes my brain hurt a little just to think about. It's fascinating though and that's probably why I love Lola Rennt.

Welcome to our class blog!

We will be using this blog throughout the semester for two kinds of assignments:

1. Once per chapter, the homework plan will direct you to post a response to the culture readings for the chapter on the blog.

2. Roughly every other week, the homework plan will direct you to post here for your Abenteuer mit Deutsch (AMD) assignment. First you do a fun activity that involves German, then you post about it. You should spend an hour total on this (maybe 45-55 minutes doing something, 5-15 minutes posting about it). See Was ist ein AMD, AMD Ideen and Beispiele for ideas. This should get you excited about the kinds of things you can do!
