AMD-6: Bob Iafrato

For this week's AMD activity I watched the German film "Wings of Desire". The plot centers around an angel who is an outsider to human experience, overseeing human activity on Earth. He listens to the thoughts of humans and comforts those in distress. The angel falls in love with  a trapeze artist, and decides to make "the plunge" and becomes a human himself in order to pursue the woman and experience the most basic sensations and emotions that we humans take for granted. I was able to understand much of the conversational German throughout the film, and the English subtitles gave me a better idea of the rest of the film. It was a really incredible film that was produced in 1987. The American response to the film was the mediocre "City of Angels". In typical American fashion, it starred the "Nickelback of American cinema", none other than Nicolas Cage.
